The earliest breads were [flat but I still find it a remarkable process of discovery. Thanks for the link to the KoMo mills. I thought I was fairly familiar with most of what was out there in terms of grain mills for the kitchen, but haven’t run across those. I lusted after a light commercial grain mill for quite some time, but could never justify the cost. I’ve got an el cheapo hand cranked grain mill which I would NOT recommend to anybody, as the amount of calories expended grinding even a few cups of flour exceed that in the flour itself, (or so it seems). I’ve also got the flour grinding attachment for the Champion Juicer. It’s slow, but it works if you only need a few cups at a time. There’s a picture of it at the bottom of [this grain mill I got the juicer used for $75 and then paid $65 for the mill attachment. I figure it’s the most versitile, cheapest way to get into very small scale flour milling, and it makes great juice and purees.

Hi Anna!It was the “Champion Juicer 2000″, a pretty burly, industrial looking thing… but very effective! I’ve been successful running frozen bananas through the ice grate attachment on my immersion blender, as well as tossing them in my blender with a splash of liquid, smoothie-style.
