I'd say pink as well, unless that is too "girly". Then I would think about a nice beigy-brown color. I would definitely go for off-white before pure white. Don't get me wrong, I loove crisp white, but it goes better with another crips color. Merlot/maroon sounds rich and elegant and would lose that richness with white
