Electric Juicer Pomegranate

Pomegranate seeds in electric juicer?

Is it okay to put pomegranate seeds in an electric juicer? I have a Jack LaLanne power juicer if it matters.

Has anyone tried pomegranates in this juicer? I'm not going to bother if I'll still have to strain it afterwards.

I did use pomegranate pips in my juicer and I did not have to strain it. The motor is strong enough to eliminate the seeds. I mixed my pomegranate juice with cherry and blueberry and it was fabulous. Cheers!

How to Juice a Pomegranate

Suggested serving size for a tall glass of pomegranate juice is 2 to 3 nice sized pomegranates, also known as the “wonderful fruit”. Now, before you go cutting into that red delicious fruit, remember that it's to be cut like an orange, not like an apple. Also, it makes less mess if you do this over a bowl so that the seeds are caught if they fall from the skin. First, take your pomegranate and cut the crown off. Then, carefully cut the pomegranate in half starting at the crown. If you went wild and bought over-sized pomegranates you will of course want to cut that fruit into quarters. What constitutes an over-sized pomegranate? Think softball.

Now, lets move on to the actual juicing preparation. Some instructions will want you to use an electric juicer, this is a big don't do. What happens to the pomegranate seeds with the electric juicer method is you will get the inner membranes of the fruit and the skin in the juice. Also, you want the pulp, not the pit. What difference would that make, you ask? In short, the juice will be bitter. Crushing the seeds can release tannin that creates the bitter taste and I don't know about you, but I am not so keen on bitter pomegranate juice.

So what should you use? A simple citrus press; this will press the juice and in doing so, let the sweet tart juice drip through and keep all the non-essentials out. Another name for this press is a straight press; Hamilton-Beach makes a decent one, or you can go to eBay and save your self some money. Many people use theses 2 or 3 times and they sell them practically brand new. Whether you search eBay or another listing site, just look for a citrus press - preferably chrome or a Juice King. Moving along now…so, that is all there is to juicing and making your own fresh pomegranate juice.

Once you experience the fresh squeezed taste of pomegranate, the store bought concentrate will never taste as good again - try it and see for yourself. If you’re really wanting to keep that healthy balance in your life, then adding fresh juiced pomegranate to your daily diet is a major plus in the right direction, not to mention it's a very tasty treat. Happy juicing!
