Grass Fruits
Grass Fruits
how do i start a fruit and vegetable garden, my backyard is all grass?

Till up all the grass and weeds and add organic matter to the soil. Cow manure which has been sterilized works very well. Different areas of the country grow different things well because of different conditions.http://www.best-home-gardening-tips.com/gardening-zones.html This is a site that will get you started. Sometimes, your local nurseries have personnel that are very knowledgeable. Good luck and start small so that your garden doesn't overwhelm you and remains enjoyable and not just a chore. Have an abundant garden.

You could be talking about “the expensive tissue hypothesis” published by Aiello and Wheeler which discussed the increase in humans’ encephalization quotient (EQ) in relation to diet. Basically, the gut and the brain are the two most energy-expensive tissues in the body. In order for an increase in humans’ EQ (which is brain to body mass), the gut probably had to decrease in mass. Give and take. Aiello and Wheeler suggested that the inclusion of a diet relatively high in meat was the paramount factor in this transition. They observed that animals with diets high in fiber (vegetation, grass, fruits, etc.) have generally larger guts (compared to body mass) to process the amount of fiber eaten daily to support their energy needs. Conversely, animals with high protein diets have generally smaller guts. So, with the introduction of a meat-rich diet we see an increase in EQ. The mandible/molar was a morphological aspect that was also affected by a change in diet, so maybe that’s the jaw/brain connection you’re thinking of? If you look at the mandibles/molars of Orangs, who eat vegetation all day long, you can see how diet presents itself in the cranial structure. Of course, the expensive tissue hypothesis isn’t an across-the-board explanation for primate brain size, and things like cooking and technology were also contributing factors. Cooking softened food as well as enriching its general nutrients, while technology made it easier to obtain said food. Nothing is really linear, I mean, Neandertals had huge jaws and larger brains than humans but some posit that their jaw was exercised as a third grasping tool (apart from two hands). Also, brain size isn’t indicative of intelligence.

COORG OF YORE IS NO MORE

    by M K Vidyaranya

Kodagu (Coorg) was still a state when I first visited that place way back in early 1950's and it had its own Government, Chief Minister and the entire area was non-polluted.
It was during early 1950's during summer holidays every year I and my brother Vasantha Madhav used to visit Kodagu along with our parents to meet our paternal aunt who was married off to a relative who was an agriculturist cum priest at the Ramalingeswara temple on the banks of river Cauvery in Ramaswamy Kanive nestled between two hills near Koodige in north Coorg.
Our weekly or fortnightly stays at Kanive is such a memorable one that it is unforgettable in our lives.
When we landed at Kanive around noon, after an arduous journey of five hours from Mandya, my home town in a bus, we were taken aback at the almost 'midnight at noon' atmosphere that prevailed on the entire route from Kushalnagar to Kanive with its evergreen forests and the canopy of which covered almost all places. Rays of sunlight were struggling to pierce through the canopy. Such was the thickness of the greenery.
It was a treat to the eyes to see trees such as jack fruit, mango, amla, etc., grown on each side of the narrow roads and no one was plucking them for business. There used to be hundreds of Honey combs seen clinging to tree branches. Any one who wants for his personal use could have plucked it. I along with my cousin Rangaswamy used to climb the tree and pluck the fruits even as we see wild elephants foraging the green leaves from the trees few hundred meters away .It was a sight to see the deers, antlers playing around with peacocks dancing in the background and chatter of birds. With the gentle sound of Cauvery water flowing quietly winding amidsts hundreds of rocks it was a virtual heaven on earth.
My cousin, Rangaswamy's father who owned 25 acres of land had herd of 25 cows, buffaloes. Since it was summer holidays, Rangaswamy and his sisters used to take the cows and buffaloes for grazing inside the thick forests and we used to accompany them enjoying the cool climate of the evergreen forests despite it was hot summer. While it had become routine for them to wear the normal dress, we used sweaters and covered our head wish caps to ward off the cold.
Carrying 'ootada butthi' (lunch ) to forest we enjoyed playing around even as the animals fed for themselves with sumptuous green grass and the fruits from trees fallen on the ground as there were lot of monkeys playing around.
Before sitting for lunch, Rangaswamy used to burst crackers to scare away monkeys from their farm where thousands of mangoes were getting ready from harvest.
Even as the crackers were burst, varieties of birds including sparrows, crows, wood cutters, humming birds and the peacocks used to flay away from the trees filling the sky. The rampaging monkeys, shell shocked at the cracker burst fled from the spot and return after two or three days.
As we sit for lunch on rocks on the big rocks midsts the Cauvery river after crossing the knee deep waters, we used to see hundreds of fish of different varieties feeding themselves by clearing our legs which we have kept inside the water. It was a feast to the eyes to see big fishes rushing to grab the remnants of food which we used to through inside the river and clean the aluminum lunch box as the use of stainless steel utensils had not become popular yet. There was no plastic and no one knew what plastic sheet or box.
Back to the mango farm, we see that some two cows were missing from the herd of 20 and Rangaswamy calls me to accompany deep into the forest and asks his sister and my brother to drive away the remaining animals home as the sun was setting fast.
When we go inside the thick forest, there was no sign of the cows and Rangaswamy was worried since two days back, the pug marks of the tiger was seen behind the mango groove. We continue the search in the pre-dusk light for more than half an hour visiting the noon and corners of the forest covered with thick bushes. Suddenly Rangaswamy hears the sound of 'gotta' (two wooden pieces tied around the neck of animals to remote sense them in the dark) we rush there to see the cows happily grazing the green grass. Then
Ranga Swamy heaves a sigh of relief as the cows were safe and nothing tragic had happened despite the tigers wandering nearby few days back.
We drive the cows home safely and milch them after some time..
A weekly shanty was to be held at Kanive regularly. Setty, a merchant used to land in our house the evening before the shanty. Wearing a Peta, Setty was traveling like a Raja on the horse back carrying his groceries for selling them at Shanty. It was a routine. My aunt used to cook two seru's (there was no kilograms then) of horse gram for Setty's horse which was to be fed to the horse. The horse gram was being cooked in an earthen pot right from 12 noon
to 6 PM in low fire and during the six hours it used to brew a thick decoction of horse gram. It would then be filtered. While the boiled horse gram is fed to the horse, the decoction, after adding 'voggarane' ( cumin seeds, asafoetida, curry leaves fried in ghee), salt and a little jaggery would be used as rasam.'Eating it with rice would be so tongue-tickling that one would eat double the quantity of rice than he regularly consumes.
The Setty used to give us 'nimbehuli peppermint' (toffee made of sugar and lemon) even as we looked after his businesss while he was taking lunch.
Farm fresh vegetable plucked from the farm right across were used in the preparation of 'palyas' (curries) and it was so tasty as the chemical fertilizers were not used as they were yet to be introduced in the market. It was the best time which I never forget.
The big village house with a large cow shed, three rooms, kitchen build by using the old type of tiles was leaking at places and there was no electricity supply. We used to light kerosene lamps and the dinner would be like a candle light dinner, which is a fashion now in five star hotels.
A Sadhu, who was observing 'Moun Vrat' was living on top of the hillock next to our house. He used to give us fruits whenever we went there.
One of the days during our fortnight stay , we used to visit Hebbale and Kudige towns nearby to spend some time.
But today, the time has changed. During a recent visit to Kanive, I saw a sea change not only in the nature and environment but also the standard of living of the people. I was happy to see Satellite Television, tractors, crop cutting machines, solar systems, gobar gas stoves and the DVD's motor cycles and cars occupying the place where ploughs, sickles, lanterns, granaries and fuel wood used to be stacked.
Though there is regular Shanty, Setty is dead and gone, no horse gram rasam, elephants are not sighted as frequently as they were, news houses have come up, forests have disappeared, you can see cultivated land every where. The whole topography has changed as an aqua duct has been built to carry Harangi waters across the Cauvery river.
Plastic which was unknown has made its appearance every where like the parthenium plants.
The Coorg of the yore is no more. Let's make efforts to preserve at least the remains of it. #

A lot of things can be taken from a spirit viewpoint rather than get caught up in material thinking and details. The material from which homes would be built, would not need to be brick and mortar as they do not have to withstand weather. The accidents are not possible, because master craftsmen are available. All plants and nature renews.

    When the dominator changes(Tall Tale)

Once upon a time, there was a lovely sheep named dolly. He was white as a snow, puffy as a teddy bear, and beautiful as Oprah Winfrey. He was a wild sheep in the vast prairie. As usual, he was eating grass. He was enjoying the smell and taste of the lettuce. At that moment he saw a wonderful red flower. He wanted to give it to his girlfriend Ebba so he tried to pick up that wonderful flower. But he accidently ate it!!! He was choking. He felt a subtle difference caused by eating that flower being amplified. He became unconscious soon.
“What the sheep! Oh I have a severe headache. Huh? I’m speaking English and I feel smart. But how come?” Dolly was surprised about his change. At that moment, someone or something was calling him. “Hey.” Dolly was seeking the place where the sound came from. “Hey, you fat little sheep. See the ground not the sky, you stupid.” When dolly saw the ground right front of him, he found a worm. “Finally, you found me. I guess that you can also speak the language of human by eating the red flower. Actually, before you I was able to speak because I had a same situation. Because I also became smarter, I had built high-technology which is superior to the human’s.” Dolly said “So what?” Worm replied, “So don’t you want to be my co-worker and conquer the world? I have thousands of weapons for you to use.” Dolly said “Why do I need to do that thing? I want peace because I am an altruistic sheep. Uh oh, huh, oooooo, aaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhh~~” Dolly was screaming. His body form was changing. Then, he duplicated. Original Dolly said “Hi Dolly?” Dolly the duplicated said “Hi Dolly?” Original Dolly said “Do you want some grass?” Doll the duplicated said “Thanks Dolly.” Dolly was so happy. He met a true friend named Dolly. Originaly Dolly said to the duplicated dolly “Do you want to conquer the world. We can have everything we want. Yummy grass, delicious grass, fantastic grass and fruits!” Duplicated dolly said “Yeah! That rocks dolly. Let’s go and conquer the world!” Original Dolly replied “Wait Dolly. We first need to duplicate more and make our army.” Worm said “What about me? I also want to participate!” Original Dolly said “You can just give me the guns you have.” Worm was then caught by the duplicated Dolly and was menaced. Worm gave all the guns to the Dolly’s and went back to his home lonely by digging holes. Original Dolly said “What is this gun? Let’s shoot something.” Dolly shot the grass. Suddenly, the grass became a sheep. Duplicated Dolly said “Here is a manual. I’ll read it for you. This gun makes everything to be same as the person or object who shot this gun. It can be reused forever without any other specific actions. Also, when this is shot to a object this was changed, it changes the molecular structure of its periphery and makes it impregnable. What Dolly’s needed to do to conquer the world was just waiting and shooting some grass.
After a week, there were nearly five million sheep ready to attack the cities built by human. The sheep were armed with weapons provided by the worm original dolly caught. However, the sheep faced a huge problem with their conquering. They didn’t have any transportation such as cars or airplanes. The commander of all sheep, the Original Dolly caught the worm which had provided Dolly with the weapons. Original Dolly commanded “Hey, worm. Dig holes all over the world so that my Dolly army can conquer the world. I will give some of the fertile soil for you and your family. I you refuse, I will slaughter all your worms with hair driers.” The worm got frightened and said, “Oh no, please not the hair driers! I will do that for you, but please not the hair driers.” After the new contract has been made, the worms began to dig holes all over the world. It took about a month for the worms to dig holes all over the world. During the month, geologists realized the strange movement of worms digging holes all over the world, but they never thought that these holes were intended for the conquer of the world. At last, the D-day approached. The Original Dolly gathered all the millions of sheep. After doing that, Dolly announced, “Fellow sheep! It is time for revenge! The sheep race has been discriminated for thousands of years by the human race. However, the day for our revenge has come! We, the sheep union will conquer the world and feast upon delicious, juicy grass and wonderful prairies!!” All of the sheep cried for revenge. Then, all of the sheep went to their assigned holes and started going underground. In the human cities, normal life was going on. Everything was fine and no one realized some rumbling in the grounds. All of a sudden, the ground busted open and surprisingly, sheep came out. “Oh, how cute these little sheep are! I want to have one of them,” said the people standing near the sheep with happy faces. However, their happy faces soon dissolved because of what the sheep has done. The sheep had a weapon and shot at people. Real blood spilled out. All of the people were frightened and ran away because other sheep were also trying to shoot with their weapons. Few minutes later came in to suppress the sheep army, but they were defeated easily by the duplicating sheep. Soon in the TVs in the world, as breaking news, the invasion of the sheep was shown. All the countries in the world formed a union against the sheep army called the UNAS (United Nation against Sheep). The UNAS used all kinds of forms of weapons to kill the sheep, even nuclear weapons. After a month of combat, the UNAS lost due to the immeasurable power of the sheep army. The Original Dolly became the dominator of the world and abolished all types of human creation and made all places to be prairies full of grass. For the leftover humans, the Original Dolly made the humans as its slave. The Worm was also given enough land for its families to live. And after the domination every sheep and human mankind, worms and other animals lived in harmony with each other.
