Brenda, Thank you for posting. We have had a summer long kids non-renewable 3-month CD with a 6% APY, but not 9% APY. I missed that one. Not sure which institution is promoting that. On your behalf, I will ask those involved here at KALSEE to review and check our CD rates. Historically, our CD rates have be among those most competive in the area.
You should be cautious and read all the fine print when shopping for a good CD rate because of “strings” that might be attached with some of the promotions for high yield CDs. For example, you might see a 9 or 10 % APY on a CD, but the catch could be that it must be tied in with an active checking account; and unlike a KALSEE checking account that checking account might have an abundance of fees. Or, maybe the CD requires a large amount of money, for example, $5,000.00, but only a smaller portion of the $5,000 dollars may be used for the high yield CD.
