Medical question. Juicing and drinking fresh fruite daily?
Hi, i wonder if anybody could help me please, and no disrespect ment but please do not answer with an answer you might think is correct. i am a 40 year old man, never been in hospital. I have for the last 20 years give or take some weekends been going out with friends drinking on a Saturday, drinking mostly lager, and usually 1 or 2 shorts in between, never a problem apart from a hangover. However having just turned 40 and thinking what can i do to look after my health i i got myself a philips juicer for christmas and since then i juice 1 orange & 1 Apple & 1 Pear togethr daily, this gives me 2 thirds of a pint, and very nice it is too. The only thing is now when i go out drinking lager there is no problem, but when i have a short or 2 my face & kneck goes bright red in bloches. are my sugar levels to high due to all the fruit?? and is there a greater risk of becoming a diabetic? your answer would be much appriciated. thanks mindiawl.
Drinking lots of fruit juice, even if unsweetened may make your blood sugar level rise too high. If you like juice, take it with a meal rather than on its own. If drinking because you are very thirsty then dilute it with water or better still drink the water on its own. Drink at least 6-8 cups of fluid a day. Avoid sugary drinks and use the sugar-free ones where you can. Men should have no more than 3 units of alcohol a day, women should have no more than 2 units. Don't save up all your units and binge at the end of the week. Alcohol can cause hypoglycaemia (low blood sugar level). Drinking alcohol also makes it harder to recognise a hypo and recover from it.
e.g. 1 unit =
* 1/2 pt beer, lager, cider or
* 1 pub measure of sherry or
* 1 standard glass wine or
* 1 pub measure spirit
Try to ensure the following:
* Don't drink on an empty stomach or miss a meal so you can have a drink
* If you drink beer or lager, choose ordinary ones preferably with an alcohol content of less than 5%. Low sugar 'diet' beers and lagers tend to be higher in alcohol and are best avoided.
* Use sugar-free or slimline mixers
* Choose medium/dry varieties of wines or sherry
You may also be at risk of having a hypo up to several hours after drinking alcohol. It is therefore important to have something to eat with your drink or shortly afterwards.

Friday I will own my very first juicer?
although it is used the lady said "perfect condition" it is a Juice Man Mini. I have two unrelated questions concerning this. First is what fruits should I juice together for my first drink, cause I want my children to be excited about this too.
Will juicing fruits and vegies help with depression? My boss has told me and some of my coworkers that I need to be on anti depressants and that scares me to no end. I figure if being able to make my own juice may at least be a start? Yes?
Here are some suggestions for the kids:
Lemon and apples together make a great lemonade. The apples act as a sweetener.
Carrots, oranges or pineapple (ginger opt.)
Watermelon, strawberries
Apple, pear, kiwi (ginger opt.)
Papaya, lemon
Apple, kiwi, strawberry
Grape, blueberry
Some that will make you feel great:
Apple, celery, parsley, lime
Celery, kale, apple, parsley, ginger
Carrot, Celery, Beet, Parsley, Kale
Tomato, celery, parsley, jalapeno pepper
Any drink with a lot of dark leafy greens is good for depression.
Those are some of my suggestions. Otherwise just be creative. Have fun!
ps. I read this quickly and thought you said your coworkers need to be on anti-depressants. I didn't realize they said you should be! You are the judge if you are depressed or not. If not, don't listen to them. If you are it's good that you are looking towards good food. A healthy lifestyle is great for the blues. You could also try raw cacao (it contains all the chemicals of love, I am serious) or St. John's Wort (although it gives me a headache, it works wonders for some people).
