Label Workhorse
What's a great small office all in one color laser printer?
What's the most reliable, workhorse small office color laser all in one printer that doesn't cost a fortune to maintain? We are looking for the very best all-in-one, off-the-shelf professional color laser printer for our small business workgroup. We are looking for features including duplex printing, scan to email, wireless and fax capabilities. We'll need to print plain paper as well as mailing labels and #10 envelopes. We need a solution that won't break the bank on toner and maintenance, yet that will print well and work well for us. We've tried unsuccessfully Brother MFC-9840CDW and Phaser 8550DT. Any suggestions, based on positive experience?
We also owned a HP LaserJet 2550n. This machine was expensive for us to maintain (toner costs) and we started seeing blue dots on our color prints.
I can't give you an exact model on this but I can make you a very good recommendation. What you're looking for is a Hewlett Packard (HP) laser printer. I worked in tech support for many years and I estimate that I've repaired over 2000 printers. If you want reliability, you'll want one of the leading brands and that's because there's a reason they are the leading brands, they're affordable and they're dependable.
Keep in mind that when I'm speaking here it's from a point of view of someone that has seen the working parts inside a printer. You couldn't give me a Lexmark because I've seen what that company will do to cut corners. I've worked on Brother, Canon and many others. I have never encountered a HP laser printer that wasn't well designed and operated well based on its cost. I've worked on some HP laser jets that half a million copies on the counter and were still running well because they were maintained properly. I own a laser and ink jet printer in my home and they're both HP because I know what I can expect.
One thing to note, the HP will likely cost you a bit more than one of the others, but it will also last you longer, saving you bills on repairs/maintenance and toner.
It should be easy to see the average cost per page on these because you can check cartridge price online and HP will show you how many pages you should expect per cartridge as well. You might save a bit of money on initial purchase with another brand but you'll spend more later on maintenance most likely. Good luck to you no matter what you decide though.
