Power Juicer Deal
Power Juicer Deal
What is the deal with power supplies between countries, specifically kitchen products?

I know that America and Australia run power differently, at different voltages, and that on computers there is a switch to swap between the two strengths and that some things aren't compadible. But how does it effect items, what can be plugged in anywhere and what can't, and what can I do to convert one to the other?

I am looking at buying some kitchen gadgets (eg. ice cream maker or juicer) on amazon because the range is better and cheaper with the dollar the way it is right now, but will the items work, can I make them work, or will they just go boom when I plug them in? Hubby thinks there are converters that can be bought at dick smith but dosen't know what we would need, and I don't much trust the salespeople these days.

Ok ... i work at Jaycar Electronics (not Dick Smith (would never go there)) we sell a few different products to do what you want.

American power points are 110-120v, Australian is 220-240v.
Buying from America gives the risk that you could buy a power supply that says only 110 or 120v on the back of it.
However some say 110/220 or 120/240. If it says this on the back then your in luck and you can use that power supply in australia as long as you get an adapter (as the plug is just a different shape).

However if it does say only 110 or 120v then you either need to get one of two things.
-> you can get a new transformer called a plug pack. (At Jaycar we sell them with different plugs sizes etc. so they are able to work on most devices(very rarely do they not fit)).
->Or you can get a step down transformer (this will plug into the power point and convert it to 110/120 and with an american socket so you can use the existing power supply).

The first option is much cheaper and you are looking at $17 - $30. (up to 35W power supply or so)
The second is a little more However you can power much bigger devices with it. (we sell up to 1000W ! ).

These are both called transformers.
If you need a DC plug pack(assuming a regulated one) then make sure the voltage is the same (sometimes devices will accept a little less but it depends). And the current supply should be greater than or equal to the device's draw current rating(so make sure the plug pack is greater than or equal to whats written on the device).
The power(P) rating in W should be greater on the power supply than the device (if youdon'tt know it just multiply Current(I) by Voltage(V) (P=VI)).
The power rating applies to the step down transformer as well.

There is also the possibility that you need an AC plug pack (however very unlikely), if this is the case i suggest getting one that has the exact same rating as the one that came with device as it will vary from device to device as to what it actually needs.(these are not regulated)

Also only the power supply will blow up unless it is very poorly built (then it may blow up the device).
If you buy a transformer that has a higher output voltage than the device then you also have the potential to blow up the device. So be careful !

I will put some links down the bottom from my works website that you can look at for prices and info.

I hope this information helps. If you came into my work im sure you could trust me. I dont care about sales im only a casual :) i would care more about helping the customer.
Good luck this information from someone at Dick Smith's ;) (they have gone too comercial)

Mixer Grinders

Ask any homemaker what is her favorite kitchen appliance and her reply would definitely be ‘Mixer Grinders’! No matter how many new types of appliances come into the kitchen, the mixer grinder has not been replaced. It has only gotten better over time.

Mixer grinders are one of the most helpful appliances in the kitchen. This is because this machine can multi-task, and finish off a lot of things in no time at all. It is used for chopping vegetables, grinding coconuts, churning curd, or even preparing a foamy milk shake! In Indian households specifically, these appliances are built to grind spices like turmeric, coriander, black pepper, etc for cooking. Wheat and rice too, can be ground to prepare Indian delicacies like idli and dosa.

Some mixer grinders include a juicer as well. This is particularly helpful to squeeze juices of fruits and vegetables. Some fruits can be put in the juicer as it is, while some need to be chopped first, depending on the blade being used. This is great for summer months when you can prepare delicious juices that are hygienic as well!

Normally, mixer grinders come with three speed options – low, medium and high. They also include 4 blades and 3 jars for performing different tasks. For instance, there would be one blade for chopping vegetables, but a different blade for crushing ice. The four blades include the dry grinding blade, wet grinding blade, whipping blade and the mincing or grating blade. The three jars comprise of the liquidizer or blender jar, the grinding jar and the chutney jar. These appliances usually function at 230W, while some high end models are equipped with energy saving technology as well.

There are many popular brands in the market that offer mixer grinders. These include Sumeet, Inalsa, Philips, Libra, Boss and more. Mixer grinder prices, of course, vary from brand to brand.

These are trusted companies that churn out innovative products from time to time. Their quality is unmatched and is comparable to international standards. They usually come with a shock protected plastic body, a stainless steel jar attachment with powerful blades. The blade attachments differ from product to product.

You can avail great discounts on Mixer Grinders on online shopping portals. When you buy mixer grinders, keep in mind your budget, your requirements and the brand you prefer most. Also, before you buy, check the capacity, motor back up and speed control options on the appliance. Many internet shopping websites offer good deals on some of the best brands.
