I have had 5 DLO's over the last year. I finally figured out what happens with them. The remote has a board inside it that shifts and gets loose over time, especially if it has ever been dropped or laid down hard. You can fix you remote and it will work better than new. Pull out the battery. Pry apart the two halves of the remote paying close attention how it goes back together. Then realign the rubber mat with the face. Lay the board back on the mat algning the 4 holes. Then on the back cover you need to place the metal h shapped piece into the proper groves and tape it to the back cover (I used clear office tape). Then snap it back together. Test to make sure it works properly. I also then tapped the remote halves together for added tightness using black electrical tape.

May be worth a bit but remember as a kid in the 60s saw this THING and thought to myself; “what a piece of crap'—cheap plastic and all—therer were some cool awesome toys then but dad had died when I was 8 1/2 in '60 and mom was an RN making by 1966—around 350 a month—not a whole lot even considering the period then and she also had to buy health ins outside from her medical work then!
