Metal Detecting - 5 Minutes in The Forest
History help please i suck at history please please help?
we have to describe the technology and its uses and then how did it influence westward movement...
Beef cattle raising- tech. and influence- her them to the R.R. or market- what's the westward movement i could put down?
transcontinental railroad- Used to take food to the east- what's the westward movement i could put down?
wheat farming- wheat was an easy crop to grow with dry-farming- what about the westward movement?
and windmill- used to pump water from wells dug in the ground- westward movement?
and then we have to rank them from 1-8 to see which one is better to not so better 1 being good and 8 being not so good.
Barbed wire
Beef & cattle raising
Dry farming
sod house
steel plow
transcontinental railroad
wheat farming
Windmill
1-8
due tomorrow please help i suck at history
Cattle raising: Westward movement would be the manufactured goods, as well as luxury items. This attracts more people to move wesward, speeding expansion.
The transcontinental railroad opened up not only the midwest but shorted the trip to the west coast by months, again encouraging people to migrate.
Wheat farming. having a viable crop that could grow in land that was initially thought to be nearly worthless drew people who wanted their own land to move throughout the midwest, filling in the central part of the country.
Windmill. Can't help you there.
Ok, 1-8 is subjective but here's a go
1) Transatlantic railroad. This bound the west coast to the east, and provided means for people from all points along the routes to communicate and to ship their products to one another. Without this, it would have been almost impossible for the western states to have joined the US as equal partners. It would have taken weeks or months, instead of days to communicate back and forth, or to send vital people where they were needed.
2) Steel Plow. This made it possible to cultivate land that otherwise was unusable. Without it, no wheat farming.
3) Dry farming. This provided the technique to successfully grow a staple crop in economically valuable quantities.
4) Wheat farming. This is the product that made the midwest worth living in.
5) Windmill. Throughout the midwest and west, water has always been an issue. anything that made it easier to obtain, and provided power for simple mechanical applications is a good thing.
6) Barbed wire. It helped make cattle raising easier, and doubled by protecting farmland from livestock.
7) Cattle farming. This provided an early and strong economic incentive to head westward, and helped establish the mythos of the "old west".
Housing is important, but I rank it last, because people adapt however they must to the land they live in. So, while it made life easier and more comfortable for people living in them, I don't think it made that much difference.
Notice I tend to rank the items dealing with farming higher than I do those dealing with cattle. It was the farming that ultimately brought in the populations, Those populations produced the product(wheat) in sufficient quantity to drive the economic buildup of small towns, then cities in the midewest and west.
Hope this helps a little.
